Let's Look at the Legacy of the
New JT21 from Ditch Witch

By Renée Lauzon-Martin - General Manager, HDD Broker LLC - June 24, 2025

Why is the Ditch Witch JT21 making waves? The JT21 is the latest in a legacy of drills, following models like the JT1720 and JT20. It's built with a larger, more stable footprint, direct drive hydraulics, and features stakedowns and a pump system borrowed from its powerhouse sibling, the JT24. That means more downhole power, more control, and more performance than ever before in this class.

Other Key updates include:

  • Stability: A wider main frame (4 inches wider than the JT20) makes the JT21 20% more slope-stable.
  • Power: Incorporates the hydraulic system and direct drive motor from the JT24, delivering 40% more downhole horsepower than the JT20.
  • Operator Benefits: More power allows for better performance in tough conditions, improved efficiency, and increased ROI.
  • Retained Features: Engine, track frames, and rear stabilizers from the JT20 are reused.
  • Operator Console: Features dual joysticks and a display that allows switching between control modes (Ditch Witch, American Auger, etc.).
  • Stakedowns & Pump: Uses the same stake down system and fluid pump as the JT24, with improved longevity and horsepower utilization.
  • Maintenance: Minimal, with the first service at 50 hours. Includes Orange Intel telematics for maintenance tracking—something the JT20 lacked.

While the JT21 may be the new kid on the block, it carries the legacy of Ditch Witch's trusted mid-size drills-stretching all the way back to 2001. It's the perfect blend of proven heritage and cutting-edge innovation.
